New to lost & found Dana Lee

image

We’re very excited to introduce Dana Lee to the Lost & Found roster. The Vancouver born, NYC based menswear designer focuses each collection around her appreciation for the everyday and curiosity for the ordinary. Injecting easy to wear styles with a timeless, casual aesthetic, Dana Lee has been a store favorite for a long time and a brand that will become an essential for any wardrobe.

“I like clothes that are relaxed and uncomplicated - things that can be worn for several seasons and that also feel right for the fashion moment… Although I appreciate thoughtful details & experimental silhouettes, my main concern when designing a garment is more the personality of the fabric, uniqueness of the color, character of finishing and the overall state-of-mind that the garment expresses.”  - Dana Lee

lost & found’s may playlist

Our friend Peter Merriman graciously created a playlist for the store that (if you can believe it) is NOT hip hop inspired. Thank you for this.

What Narcissism Means to Me

1. I wanted to start the playlist with a Destroyer song, and I was going to use ‘Rubies,’ but then I pictured Jonathan playing air-flute to this one. To paraphrase Morrisey, Dan Bejar’s music has a certain perverted grandiosity to it, and thus speaks to me very directly.

2. Eurythmics are perfect for the summer and the detuned synth (?) in this has aged beautifully.

3. Talking Heads’ last single (from an album) ends with the line ‘I can’t get used to this lifestyle.’ And shout-out to the 7-11 across the street. Another summer jam.

4. Putting some post-Zai feminine energy back in the store with a song about boys. I also miss their drummer’s showboating in more recent Cardigans stuff.

5. & 6. Prominent rhythm guitar, lyrics expressing gratitude, popular West Coast vibes. I would say that Random Access Memories seems positioned to become the hipster Rumours, but I guess Rumours is already the hipster Rumours.

7. Like the Eurythmics track, another synth part that sounds perfect to today’s ears. Also: Jarvis strutting around Sheffield as Death, ‘making bodies’ and ‘laying people down.’

8. Early(ish) LCD, mostly for the drum machine at the beginning.

9. Classic Mael bros. / Moroder collabo. The more I listen to this, the more moving it becomes. I also tend to love songs about songs.

10. Meant as a pause before the rock stuff at the end, but also one of my favourite singles from last year, and hopefully a nice song to listen to in the summer.

11. I’ve loved the YYYs since their first EP, but I was still blown away when I first heard this (on Diplo’s ‘I Like Turtles’ mix). It took me a few years to find a reasonably priced copy on vinyl, so I’ll be playing it a lot.

12. A bad-ass funk-rock (and classic anti-slut-shaming) song. I can’t imagine she wasn’t an influence on Karen O. Listen to it when you’re getting ready to go out.

13. Hopefully not too ham-fisted as a closing track. I still can’t get over the production on the drums.

Arpenteur S/S 2013

New to Lost and Found this season is Parisian brand Arpenteur. The product of Lyon design duo Marc and Laurent, the work wear inspired brand is one of the last remaining companies to manufacture all of their goods in France.

The summer collection showcases the brands attention to detail and penchant for creating functional garments. Durable cottons, washed chambrays and all those other essentials we want on our backs for 30+ weather round out the season.

Shoes Like Pottery

Shoes like Pottery are now available at Lost and Found. For the past 140 years the Japanese brand has hand crafted their traditional canvas shoe in unprecedented fashion. Instilling the workmanship of a select handful of shoe manufactures, each pair is fired in a kiln (the same process used to make pottery) to cultivate a unique and natural texture of the rubber. The results equal a more durable and flexible sole ideal for life in the city…. And the accent indigo blue isn’t a bad touch either.

You can grab them right here.

Battenwear SS 2013

Battenwear has arrived at Lost and Found for the spring season, bringing with it city-surf inspired designs and workwear durability. Like all good things originating from the Brooklyn based brand, functionality takes precedence over design - not that were complaining about retro floral print camp shirts or Statue of Liberty chambray anoraks. Packable outwear, zip away hoods and reinforced board shorts pretty much let you know where Shinya and co are headed this summer!

Day Tripper.

image

We recently received a portion of our New Balance S/S collection and of our favourites has already made it into the store.

This new collection dubbed the ‘Day Tripper’ pack is Inspired by the great cross-country American road trips that became a key fixture in the ’60′s motorcycle scene. We recently received one of two from the the American-made pack. The classic 996 silhouette is crafted with a combination of premium suede and nubuck leather joined by mesh inserts and design details inspired by the open roads, motorcycle chrome, helmets, and leather and bandanas worn by the riders. The 996 stands out with red trim and blue leather vamps. The use of different materials on this shoe is what makes it so special. The incorporation of leather and suede makes this shoe stand out from the rest of the ‘pack’ and truly sets itself apart from your every day sneaker. They can be found online right here.

Word.

One of the latest brands to land at lost & found is Word. notebooks. A relatively new company, we were excited when we came across this brand and their use of colour and camo for a notebook. Yes we still love our Field Notes but this adds a little something extra when we drop that notebook on the table and everyone ultimately drops the line ‘Word.’ I mean I feel like the guys had that exactly in mind when they created their brand.

Regardless, their ‘system’ is what ultimately brought us on board. It was something new, fun and functional which fits right in line with the lost & found mantra. I implore you guys to come by and check them out in person. You will not be disappointed.

Christmas come early…

Christmas came early to Lost & Found as we received a VERY early Spring shipment of New Balance. Easily our most anticipated colour of the season, the Made in the USA New Balance 1300 in Burnt Orange is a new silhouette to the store. Made popular over the last couple of years in J. Crew stores we were very fortunate to receive this shipment well ahead of others and this colourway does not disappoint. Constructed from a combination of nubuck and mesh and New Balance’s Endcap midsole you just might get lucky with these under the tree this season…

The Inspiraton Behind TPC

We have found a great article on TPC by Pendleton - it interviews the three Portland designers on the early days and how the line relates to Pendleton’s history. It’s an interesting read on designing a collection a year and a half in advance, and balancing trend with the classic heritage brand.
